Healthy Lifestyle Starts at Paint Pots Nursery

Good habits start young. Eating well. Keeping active.
At Paint Pots Nursery they’re all part of our exploring and sharing approach to learning. You’ll see it in the way we play. You’ll notice it in the way we choose and prepare what we eat and drink. And you’ll discover healthy lifestyle learning permeates our curriculum. But for your child, it’s not about being lectured. It’s just another great fun-packed day at nursery.
Looking after young bodies and minds is the best possible start for a long healthy outlook on life.

Our children have busy days, with a carefully planned balance of physical activity and quiet times.
Outdoor play is really important, whatever the weather, and we have plenty of activities to keep young bodies and minds busy.
We don’t stay in when the outside world beckons. We might:
- go on a wildlife hunt to the duck pond
- become explorers on a nature trail in the local woodland of Quarrymill
And when we do stay in, we don’t have to stop moving. We could be:
- on our feet and dancing one minute
- trying out some new stretches and bounces the next
And to welcome our children to the worlds of exercise and sport that they can love for life, we offer sessions in Yoga, Football and Rugby. It’s not all go. We have plenty of quieter times for stories, arts and crafts, circle times and more – to train the brain as well as the body.

Nutrition
The day starts early for some, so we provide toast and fruit for children arriving at breakfast time. And we offer water and milk for anyone building up a thirst.
Snack time is a great opportunity learn about making good choices. We stop for snacks in the morning and the afternoon, and they’re a carefully planned time. Behind the scenes we follow the guidance set out in ‘Setting the Table’ to make sure our snack menus are healthy and well balanced.
We don’t just tell the children what to eat though. They help to prepare their snacks, and we greatly encourage them to try something different!

Nursery Matters
We encourage their interest in where their food comes from by growing our own in our garden.
We explain what’s healthy and what’s a treat, and how they can balance their choices.
But we don’t want to bring anxiety to the table. So meal times are a relaxed and social time that children can enjoy as part of their day.
It’s all about learning through having fun.
